Elderly and disability housing

High-tech elderly and disability housing in the real world; namely McKeesport, Pennsylvania:

Yes, it is wheelchair accessible.

This is a floor plan of the inside. I have driven my scooter through all of it, so I know it exists. I also know that right now there is an elderly individual living in a cottage of this design and more cottages are becoming available for residence as I key in these words.

Sensors command that 911 be caslled automatically if a resident falls. The apartment reminds (the apartment reminds? here walls talk) the resident when to take medication.

This blog is UNFINISHED. There are place settings indicating where things will go eventually, links that do not link and so on.

This blog site will contain:

1. A view of current elderly and disability housing at Addison Court, State College, Pennsylvania. I will describe how management efficiently accommodates its apartments to meet its residents' needs, showing photographs of grab bars and a wheel chair roll in shower. However, Addison Court was built over a decade ago and the purpose of this blog is to show you what elderly housing will look like in the future.

2. A detailed view of Blue Roof technologies. Blue Roof designs its individual apartments as cottages where a “smart cottage” calls 911 when built-in sensors indicate the resident has fallen and has not gotten up in a timely way.

3. More on Sonali Kumar's 3-D model which contractors, students desiring a career in construction, and others can use when broadcast at the ICON lab to visualize on the laboratory’s large screens, immersed in virtual reality, wearing 3-D glasses, and hence given the ablity to improve the housing of the future. Imagine the savings when housing can be designed and changed to help keep elderly and disabled residents from prematurely entering assistive living. Imagine the improvement in the quality of living.

4. A description of the tools involved in creating the design and how the world of video games and virtual reality immersion bring a technology generally regarded as fun (or as an addictive waste of time) to saving big Medicare dollars and adding dignity to the aging process.

Flight simulator proves that virtual reality is sometimes better than the real thing

This is from, of course, Wikipedia, the invaluable tool virtual reality researchers rely upon to explain what they are doing and to help define developments in the 3- and 4-D world in which they virtually live.

Not since Diderot created the first encylopedia in the 18th century has there been such an impressive and timely repository of comprehensive knowledge.

To further the gathering and dissemination of useful and reliable information, I urge you in these dark economic times to give what we can to support Wikipedia, on which I will be relying to explain such terms as GAME ENGINE.

I am going to quit blogging right now and give Wikipedia a token sum because I do not have more and I want the encylopedists to feel the love.
